Picking a new name for myself?

I can imagine that a situation like that would be quite frustrating, and I don't blame you for wanting one of you to change your name just for university. However, i wouldn't take it as far as you are thinking of going with it. Why not just shorten your name. Like if your first name is Daniel asked to be called Dan or Danny by your professors etc
