Same capacity same brand harddrive, which has more production cost, more platter or denser storage?

im just asking because i felt i was ripped off, cuz i got a 750GB that obviously comes with three 250GB platters. while other people can have a single 500GB platter or 1 GB platter drive with lighter weight.
